The Seniors follow a higher, more complex level of the structured ACE programme. Throughout the morning the students work on the theoretical side of their education and core curriculum and in the afternoon they concentrate on the practical and applying the theoretical (Complementary Activities). They participate in lessons, present project work and Oral Reports and grow in confidence through group work and discussions. They are honing the work study skills that have been developed throughout the school. Students are always focussed on setting their own goals and being responsible for their own work and achievement. They are actively involved in their education from the Lower School and the fruit of that is seen in the Senior Learning Centre.
The afternoon Complementary Activities range from Practical Science (where they may dissect cows’ eyes, build circuits or mix chemical solutions), to Chapel (where they are presented with different world views and dialogue through demanding apologetics). They prepare for ESC (European Student Convention) and spend time on platform events, music performances, Art assignments, physical exercise and in sharing experiences.
We are very proud of our Sixth Form and are able to rely on them in many leadership capacities. They are team leaders and have a role in monitoring, guiding and encouraging the younger students. The Sixth Form uniform is expressed as dress guidelines, encouraging them to develop their presentation skills and to promote smart individuality. They are working towards their entrance at university and we support them as they make their applications and prepare for interviews.
The students study six core curriculum subjects which are:
- English Grammar
- Social Studies (including History and Geography)
- Science (including Biology, Chemistry and Physics)
- Word Building/Etymology
Each core subject (except Word Building) comprises 144 PACEs. In general a child will complete 12 PACEs each year in each core subject – an annual total of approximately 72 PACEs.
These subjects may be studied by pupils who have successfully completed the core curriculum subjects up to PACE 1085. Credit is awarded towards the International Certificate of Christian Education for these subjects and you should ensure that your child is registered with the ICCE Board.

- Computer Literacy
Reference books, audio and videotapes are required to complete some options.
The International Certificate of Christian Education (ICCE) has been available for several years in this country and is now being accepted by universities, both in the UK and abroad, as an alternative to the usual GCSE and GCE route (see 1997 UCAS Handbook p.25, noting that this does not denote accreditation by UCAS). The ICCE is only available to students using the School of Tomorrow curriculum although some credit may be allowed for work to those coming late onto the programme. The certificate is available at three levels and has been used by ACE students to gain entrance to many universities including Aberystwyth, Durham, Manchester and Oxford. There is a fee for ICCE registration. Some courses within the ICCE also have an individual charge, such as ECDL.
Staff training and qualifications
- All school staff are DBS certified
- All Senior Supervisors receive external professional training to administer and facilitate the Senior Learning Centre
- All Learning Centre monitors receive in-house training to facilitate the Senior Learning Centre
- All Supervisors have university degrees
